Kia Metropol Arena Tillypark

A next-generation multifunctional arena for sports and events in Nuremberg

The Kia Metropol Arena (Halle am Tillypark) is Nuremberg’s new benchmark venue for indoor sports and events, designed to ensure maximum operational flexibility and a high-quality experience for athletes, spectators and event organisers. Opened in 2021, the arena can accommodate up to 4,000 spectators and includes functional spaces such as a foyer, media and VIP areas, changing rooms and facilities supporting sporting activities.

The project was developed using an integrated, coordinated BIM approach—key to ensuring reliable timelines and a high level of execution accuracy. The MEP concept focuses on comfort, indoor air quality and energy efficiency: HVAC systems sized for large crowds, dehumidification and intelligent sensor-based control, as well as electrical and special systems dedicated to monitoring and supervision. The result is a modern, reliable venue, ready to host a diverse programme of sporting and cultural events.

Our services

Energytech contributed to the delivery of the new sports arena at Tillypark with a multifunctional, smart and highly energy-efficient approach, leveraging specialist know-how and project management based on state-of-the-art BIM technology. In collaboration with the NÜSSLI Group, we were responsible for the complete design and monitoring of the technical building services for the 4,000-seat arena—from ventilation and cooling through to special electrical systems.

The MEP concept was developed to ensure high performance even under maximum occupancy: air cooling up to 160,000 m³/h with dehumidification at 18°C, together with intelligent CO₂-controlled ventilation, provides thermal comfort and excellent indoor air quality while optimising energy consumption. BIM-based delivery enabled detailed planning to prevent clashes and coordination issues, while off-site pre-assembly of plant components increased on-site efficiency and reduced time and project risks.

Our scope included planning across all project phases, overall coordination of interfaces and disciplines, technical site supervision and execution support, with a continuous focus on schedule and cost control enabled by precise BIM workflows. The result is a project that demonstrates how precision, technology and experience are key to delivering fast, efficient and sustainable solutions in large-scale construction.
